Hey everyone! Today we’re going to be talking about panels – and if YOU want to run one (or be on one!) how to make that happen: I’m going to take you through the process of making a panel idea a reality.
Now I know what you are thinking, but I promise it’s not a difficult process and it’s one we have put in place to make sure we get the best panels possible that really represent GX3 and the amazing diversity we see at our conventions.
As is the first step in any thing, you have to come up with an idea for the panel or talk–the form itself is pretty self explanatory and can be found here: at this lovely little link.
FUN FACT: Be prepared to give as much detail on your panel as possible, because incomplete panels submissions won’t be reviewed. Also, have fun!
Note: All panel submissions are due by September 1st – no later, no exceptions. Once submitted panels won’t be viewed by just a single person, but by a group of people. We call this group the Panel Advisory Board. Their job is to do things like sift through all of the submissions, reach out to submitters and get more information where needed, work with the panelists for any needs they might have, and find additional panelists if needed.
The Panel Advisory Board, or PAB, will also do something called a diversity review. This ensures mishaps like a panel on diversification in games isn’t held by a line up of only white dudes. We feel that where appropriate panels that discuss such topics should have a wide array of voices that better represent the vast amount of diversity we see and want to see in our community.
Once the PAB has reviewed your submissions, then comes the fun part: the scheduling. Now that’s not something that you all have to worry about, just something that happens on our end. Please let us know if there are any times that would work especially well for you or that don’t work for you, and we’ll try to work with all reasonable requests – once that happens your panel is as good as gold and ready to be debuted at GX3.
As always, don’t be afraid to ask any questions as the crew here at GX3 is here to help! You can find us on our forums or on twitter @gaymerX! You can also email us at: [email protected].
As always signing off with nothing but love for the community.
~Kayla

Today is the day! May 19, the release date of our documentary film Gaming In Color, in its major wide release on all your favorite platforms. The film is out today on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, PlayStation, Xbox, Vudu, VHX, Gumroad, and Vimeo. It is being distributed through the lovely Devolver Digital Films!
Please check out our brand new website (as well as our brand new trailer!) to find out exactly where to buy the film right now!
So much hard work has gone into this project, and we at MidBoss have tried to do as much as possible to make this major release the biggest success it can possibly be. We certainly would not be here without your support and investment in the cause. Before anything else, thank you.
The goal of our company has always been to bring diversity and inclusiveness to the worlds of gaming and geek culture. Gaming In Color is the expression of that very point of values.
If you haven’t heard about the film before, this is our queer games feature documentary we created in between GaymerX 1 and 2. From out of the closet and into the arcade, we focused not only on the issue of representation in the world of gaming but also on why such representation matters and what effect it has on gamers from all walks of life. Our crew provided so much effort to make this doc the best it could be, our cast provided incredible insight on every topic we cover, and you our fans have given us so much valuable support. We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I personally hope this project is as thrilling to you to watch as it was rewarding for me to make.
Please give it a watch, and if you like it, leave us a review! Reviews are paramount, and will seriously help the success of the film the more we get. Plus, they’re free!
In fact, if you leave us a review on at least 3 different platforms (iTunes, IMDB, Amazon, Google, PlayStation, or Xbox) and email us screenshots of them at [email protected], (reviews, not just a rating), we’ll happily send you a $10 Amazon gift card for your trouble! Limited to the first 50 entries. It doesn’t even have to be a glowing review, good or bad counts. 🙂
Also… beyond our release today, we have been telling you all that we have more platforms to come down the line. Today we can finally announce that Gaming In Color is coming soon to Steam! No specific date yet for that, but stay tuned. We hope this opportunity will allow even more people to see and enjoy Gaming in Color and what it has to offer.
Share the news with your friends, and spread the word about the film. The more people that see this film, the more the message of inclusiveness this film delivers can be spread further and further. It’s never been as important as it is now.
Thank you.
Philip Jones, director of Gaming In Color, and the whole GIC crew
FlameCon, New York’s first queer comic con, will be taking place in June 13, 2015. It’ll be held in The Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn, New York. The gorgeous venue will host a day of fun and geekdom from thoughtful discussions to performances, screenings, and outrageous costumes! The event is held by the good people at GeeksOUT, a non-profit organization helping to celebrate the work of queer creators in the world of geekiness.
Well, GaymerX is going to be teaming up with the good people at GeeksOUT to bring some awesome game devs to FlameCon! That means that if you’re headed to FlameCon then you’ll be able to see us and lots of awesome devs showing off their games! We promise to grab a selection of games worthy of the awesomeness you’ve come to expect from GX, which will fit nicely with the awesomeness of FlameCon!
We can’t begin to tell you how excited and honored we are to be a part of this event!!
Are you a game dev who’s going to FlameCon or maybe just considering it? Well, you might have a chance to get a FREE TABLE to show off your awesome game! We’re working to partner with some folks to create a scholarship program to get some great games in front of the crowd. If all goes well, that means YOU might be able to get a table for free!
Just fill in the form in this link to apply for a free table!
Feel free to link this to friends who might be able to come, we don’t want to miss any opportunity!
For those of you who couldn’t attend GXDev we wanted to give a wrap-up of our very first queer game jam!
History
Throughout our time running the GX conventions, we’ve brought up time and time again the value of bringing more voices to the table in games. We’ve talked a lot about all of the new tools and communities that can help you make your first projects easy. Eventually we got to thinking that we’d like to do more than just tell you how to make games, but give you a place to do it too.
Our Awesome Sponsors!
We were gracefully given the PubNub offices to run our first game jam. From then on, generous contributions from folks like SpriteBuilder, Tobii, Firebase, Github as well as the rest of our awesome sponsors made the event possible.
Our Speakers, Mentors, and Judges
Anna Kipnis – Gameplay Engineer at DoubleFine (Brutal Legend, Broken Age, etc)
Kortney Ryan Ziegler – Creator of Trans*H4CK, award-winning filmmaker, and activist.
Johnnemann Nordhagen – Formerly at Fulbright (Gone Home), founder of Dim Bulb Games.
Rob Jagnow – Founder of Lazy 8 Studios (Cogs, Extrasolar)
And all of our other amazing speakers, guests, volunteers, and game devs!
The Plan
To split up into teams of 1-5 and try to make the best games we could in 24 hours. The theme of GXDev was “The Stories That Aren’t Told” to encourage games with themes we don’t usually get to see. Devs were offered food, snacks, drinks, supplies, hardware, wifi, and lots of encouragement.
The Outcome
All of our groups really knocked our socks off, making a whole lot of really incredible games that covered a lot of ground. After a brief presentation, games were played by the judges and voted on for awards. We had winners for best use (or misuse) of color, most ridiculous, and loudest and proudest. But we know what you’re looking for:
The Games
Now not only can you hear about the awesome games we made, but you can check them out yourself! There’s a game where you play as a cactus seeking a hug, a butt dating sim, and a game where you play as a materialistic crow. We’ve got an itch.io page for GXDev where we are hosting the games that were made, and I think you’ll be amazed at what got done in 24 hours or LESS!
Click that Controller! <3
Thank You!
Thanks so much for being a part of making GXdev happen – it was only through making GX3’s kickstarter successful were we able to put together this game jam focusing on making awesome queer games – and your support, whether coming to GaymerX or donations to Kickstarter to buying Read Only Memories, helps us make more queer friendly games and queer themed events for the gaming community.
THANK YOU!!!
<3 Matt and the GaymerX Team
We’re happy to inform you that we’ve been spending our time since GXDev with the awesome folks at BackerKit! Being supporters of LGBT and local events, they have gone way beyond the pail to help us out with our fulfilment, which means we’re sending stuff out to you guys sooner than we thought we could!
Huge thanks to BackerKit for all their help! <3
Using BackerKit for shipping was actually way cheaper and faster than any of the times we’ve done Kickstarter fulfilment before. They really turned an incredibly long process into a surprisingly short one. If we do any more KS projects in the future, we’ll definitely be using them, and we encourage you to check them out as well! (We get plenty of folks poking us for advice with Kickstarter, so here is some!)
The new shirts look AMAZING, we got new stickers (vinyl of course) and they’re AMAZING, posters– AMAZING. Basically when we had all the stuff in one place we were like:
Packages are in the mail and we’re excited for you to get it! Thanks so much everyone for being a part of GX3 and we can’t wait to have you at the event!!
GXDev’s theme is..
The theme for GXDev is now officially revealed, that means everyone can start jamming! The theme speaks mainly to the stories of people of sexualities, genders, and other differences from what is commonly portrayed in mainstream games. No more token characters with tired out stereotypes. We wanna see stories about the subtle issues that arise out of being different and the intricacies of complicated identities .
Join us on Itch.io and jam with us all weekend!!
